Becca: Main character
Early 30’s, Jewish, body positive, mother died when she was in high school and had to fend for herself as her brother, Ben was out of the house by that time. She was the mediator, the good kid.
In college, she met Syl, her best friend and had a lesbian relationship which Syl still talks about. Becca now exclusively dates men.
Looks like My Crazy Ex Girlfriend, Rachel Bloom
Introvert, sensing, feeling, judgement. Observer by nature. Conflict adverse though loves intellectually debating for debating sake and analyzing.
Works in marketing, Is well respected by her coworkers and reliable and hard worker
Can’t get promoted- She’s been working for a few years as a strong #2
Derek, her boss sort of believes in her but really doesn’t back her up enough to his boss, Miller so it’s a moot point.
She’s a good friend, loyal best friend to Syl and helpful sister to older brother Dan.
Wants to travel to Israel and have a proper adventure where she can grow a bit and experience life for herself outside of being a hard worker, sister, nurturer and giver to others
Likes tapas, Loves Rummikub hard core and used to play it with her grandmother
English major
Note: In early iterations of the book, I envisioned Becca more as Kat Dennings (and even note this in one of my early chapters), of the Two Broke Girls and the Marvel franchise. I still dig Kat. However, I fell in serious like with Rachel in the show Reboot, which I’ve reviewed over at BEVP and even started a petition to save. Also Bloom is candid about her anxiety and depression and I felt like her struggles felt a bit more germane to Becca’s being.
